Drum Machine
An old school drum machine using 21st century sampling techniques: loop samples, multi-channel sounds, generative sequencers.
It features acoustic drums recorded in innovative ways to achieve a warm, dry and dense sound. There are no traditional velocity layers, just “normal” + “accent”. Each of these layers has 10 loops, which gives the drums a lively and organic feel.
All sounds in AC-DR are generated from acoustic drums using microphones, contact mics, echo chambers and transformer distortion.
Each AC-DR drum module has up to 5 channels for mixing. Each of these channels is part of the same drum hit, all perfectly aligned in phase and time.

Each drum was carefully recorded in large batches of hits, which were then edited by ear to produce a tight set of 10 random hits that sound as identical as possible.

All kick drum, snare, rimshot and tom samples were re-amped in two Rockfield echo chambers. The resulting reverb samples can be mixed into a separate channel: an important additional element of drum design.
